Heather Ali & Associates was founded in 2004 as an avenue to allow Heather Ali to conduct pro-bona search work for world health organizations and non-profits. Heather recently expanded her firm after realizing that the level of service she demands to provide to her clients and candidates is not feasible as a vendor-side recruiting employee. With over 10 years of business, recruiting and Board experience, Heather works on a very consultative basis to assist client companies in recruiting executive and clinical talent. Heather also conducts confidential searches for exceptional candidates by making private introductions to appropriate organizations on their behalves.
Heather put herself through college while working as a receptionist with a renowned law firm in Savannah, Georgia. The attorneys and staff allowed Heather to learn and contribute to more demanding projects that sparked her career as a Certified Legal Assistant and Paralegal in the areas of corporate law, SSI/SSD, criminal defense and insurance defense litigation. One of her favorite areas of practice includes corporate law. In this capacity, Heather and her managing attorney assisted corporate clients and non-profits with Board search and services, including governance and due diligence case management. In her last two roles as a Paralegal, Heather was also responsible for business operations and Human Resources, including recruiting and benefits administration.  After a devastating divorce and disastrous engagement with an attorney who entangled her in his unscrupulous activity, Heather relied on the part-time income she made as a recruiter with Prepaid Legal Services to make ends meet and began her career in vendor-side recruiting as a Senior Healthcare Recruiter. Since then, Heather’s experience has evolved from staffing to executive search across a variety of industries including healthcare, technology, finance, legal and C-suite/V-suite level search.

To meet her now, you’d be surprised at her 5 foot 1 frame that has admittedly, on occasion, shared clothes with her 13-year old teenage daughter. At 32, much of Heather’s work as President of Heather Ali & Associates is conducted by telephone and videoconference, especially during the earliest stages of search work. Her clientele includes Boards of Directors, CEO’s, physicians, VC firms and powerful executives across the board.

“It’s both fun and challenging to look as young as I do. Granted, it’s a blessing in terms of aesthetics, and it definitely didn’t hurt two years ago when I married my husband who is 9 years younger than I am. That being said, it’s hard to be taken seriously when you’re having dinner with a CEO to discuss business and your waiter still cards you,” Heather says.

At age 9, Heather was already a part-time paid staff reporter with The Weekly Messenger, a Manassas newspaper distributed across northern Virginia. By age 15, she worked as a waitress and had her own businesses as a newspaper delivery girl and certified babysitter. She worked for her mother, a real estate executive, newspaper reporter and entrepreneur Publisher. By age 18, Heather already had a portfolio that included tenures as a published newspaper and on-air TV feature reporter.  She is a certified Image Consultant and has a winning history on the Miss and Mrs. America Pageant circuits and coaches pageant contestants across the state of North Carolina.

Heather still volunteers her time with various non-profit organizations including Dress for Success, the American Cancer Society the faith-based jobseeker ministry she began at her church, and has served and volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Lupus Foundation of America since 2001. She is currently raising awareness and interest for Raleigh’s first “Walk for Lupus” which will be held in the Spring of 2009.

In addition to executive search, Heather Ali & Associates offers Board search and services, capitalization consulting for emerging growth and start-up companies, due diligence drafting and editing, television and media casting, and Forms at Your Fingertips-affordable corporate and HR forms for companies without access to expensive document databases. Heather still works with Prepaid Legal Services as a Group Benefits Specialist and works with employers to offer this voluntary benefit, as well as others, to their corporate benefits offerings.
