| Q. What is your 30 second elevator pitch? A. In an increasingly sedentary, passive, and wired world, Flow Circus promotes active learning and play. Through juggling and other skill-based activities, we provide opportunities to exercise creativity, critical thinking, and goal achievement. Flow Circus conducts corporate and after school programs to cultivate healthier, more productive individuals. We help people excel in unexpected ways. Q. Describe the planning leading up to your launch? A. Flow Circus engages in on-going market research and the piloting of programs based on needs identified by clients and opportunities in the marketplace. Since 1999, we have delivered services and products related to the Variety Arts in the form of performances, workshops, and the sale of skill-based toys. We are currently adjusting our business model to accommodate growth to an international scale. Q. What market need do you fill? A. Library, afterschool, and summer programming directors are looking for activities to engage tweens and teens that are flexible, sustainable, and provide growth opportunites. They are continually searching for activities that are novel, will spark kid’s interest, and teach them valuable traits such as perseverance. Flow Circus fills this need with its dynamic programs. Corporate professional development planners are looking for novel and innovative programs to challenge staff to work in teams to develop critical thinking skills. Our programs immediately cause participants to let down their guard and engage with each other in new and creative ways. Q. What is your and your team's background? A. Paul Miller graduated from Bentley College in 1994 with a BA in Accounting. He spent 5 years after college cultivating his love for juggling and other skill toys. In 1999, he founded Flow Circus as a variety arts performance company. Dawn Daria has a BS in Philosophy and Psychology and a Masters degree in Education. Her experience spans a wide range of formal and informal learning environments. In 2006, she became Director of Education for Flow Circus. Q. How are you funded and what is your revenue model? A. Flow Circus is privately owned and operated and is not currently soliciting investors. We derive our revenue from multiple income streams and from a uniquely defined market segment. We also cultivate corporate and community partnerships to make our program available to a wide range of non-profits organizations. Q. What is the importance of being based in Raleigh? A. The Triangle is rich with great business minds and entrepreneurial spirit. High achieving colleges and universities, a robust tech industry, and a vibrant art scene is what makes RTP one of the top places to headquarter a business in the country.
